Global Warming, What You Can Do
74to Fight those Who Say the Debate is Over
As I expected I am being called a variety of explicative adjectives for coming out of the “I don’t believe in global warming” closest. That was to be expected. It is always the tactic of those who operate on politics and emotion rather than data and civility to attempt to quash those who might have opinions that differ from them by demeaning their opposition rather than debating their opposition .
The most noticeable offender is Al Gore himself. Here is a man who was vice president of the United States and was almost president. Yet, when it comes to global warming he says “the debate is over.” Does he think it is a 100% certainty that there cannot be new evidence or data that might suggest the main cause for global warming is caused from something other than carbon emissions? Gore’s statement about the debate being over really makes me glad he didn’t become president. If he had he would probably have me arrested for writing this blog.
One personal attack against me was by someone who found
me comparable to Bush. I am sure this
person thought he was using the worst name he could against me, something much worse
than calling me a imbecile.I hope he felt better after he launched his bile.
Of course global warming brown shirts and their supporters don’t let facts or truth get in their way. For example, in Gore’s movie the claim is made that because of global warming the earth’s seas will rise 40 feet. This was too much for even the UN. That organization set the record straight and stated that they had been misquoted and the seas would only rise 4 feet.
Global warming brown shirts don’t care about details or accuracy. In their minds the seas are going to rise, so what’s the difference if the mistake is tenfold? The inconvenient truth to them is any scientific explanation other than their explanation.
Gore is no scientist. As a politician his career had not been based on data and scientific thought, it has been based on polls. I congratulate Gore, He is an expert politician. Since he rose to the level of presidential contender he can be considered one of the top politicians in the U.S in the 21st century. I think I will find general agreement on the previous statement.
The foundation of Gore’s expertise is not scientific logic,
rather Gore’s core expertise is rallying people to come to a consensus about
something he wants through political tactics, fund raising and experience in
building political organizations. He also knows that many people are less
skeptical of claims that support what is perceived to be a noble cause. What
cause can be perceived to be nobler than saving the earth through stopping
global warming. Also most people don't use the same caution when joining a cause they deem as noble. They forget it is possible for a cause that seems noble to use misleading tactics.
Gore and most politicians operate on the same political
philosophy as do the likes of people such as Bernie Madoff. They make promises that can’t be kept and
they lure people in so deep they can’t afford to get out.How many politicians and ordinary people are so personally committed to supporting the global warming sky is falling rant, that even when presented with evidence to contrary they blindly stick to the their position?
So here we have a non scientist who flunked out of divinity school who became a politician, leading the U.S. and the world on the biggest scientific movements ever. Essentially the movement is based on a simple cause and effect perception. The cause-carbon emissions from human activity have increased. The perceived result the globe is warming and glaciers and the ice caps are melting. While the cause and effect mentioned above are certainly the way most of humanity observes the world, it’s not the way science works.
As a politician Gore and his global warming enthusiasts also know the best way to fight data, scientific logic and investigation is to use emotion and to demean the opposing view. For example comparing me to Bush, rather than debating the issue.
Thus when someone presents a logical statement such as, Greenland must have been covered by fewer glaciers when the Vikings lived there because archeologists are finding the ruins of Viking habitations in areas recently covered by glaciers.
The global warming brown shirts will divert attention by saying something like, “Those archeologists are tools of the coal companies and who want you to think Greenland was green and warmer.”
In turn their minions in the press will either ignore, under report, or worse yet write a store in such a way that to the casual reader seem to support the global warming theory. Hence the headlines in a leading paper might read SCIENTISTS FIND GLOBAL CLIMATE CHANGE WAS THE REASON VIKINGS BECAME EXTINCT IN GREENLAND.
The story might go on to read: Archeologists in Greenland found that climate change so changed the environment in Greenland, that Viking Settlers could no longer live there. The proof of the climate change is seen in the change of glacial size.
Eventually the real findings will be buried in the last paragraph of the article. However, most people never get that far because everyone knows that the most important information in a newspaper article is found in the lead paragraphs.
Meanwhile the global warming crowds will blog the story corrupting it more and more. Ultimately some Global warming brown shirt will write a comment to someone like me saying, “You are as dumb as Bush. Look at what happened to the poor Vikings in Greenland, global warming did them in. Do you want the same thing to happen to us?”
What you can do.
Short term: Suggest to your global warming friends that regardless what their stand is on global warming they should read the Book Carbon Folly written by Donn Dears. Google it or read my blog about it. The book takes a hard look at how difficult it will be to reduce carbon emissions by 80% by 2050 while the U.S population is increasing by 130,000,000.
The second thing to do is ask any global warning believers if they have bought any real estate on the Canadian or Siberian tundra. Why? Tell them, cause that is the place to be if they are correct about global warming, They should stake their claims now before all those displaced coastal people start a land rush.
Tell them you know someone who can sell them tundra land cheap and send them to me. I just as well be like AL Gore and make a fortune on this global warming thing.

Captain Sir, Can you kindly name the specific places of which you speak. Also please refer to the recent NY Times article that cites scientific evidence that there has been no temperature increase for the last ten years.
Lastly, kind sir. I agree with you about capitalists. Al Gore is the biggest pig at the trough. His personal fortune has swelled from $3 million to more than $100 million thanks to his investments in global warming. Mr Gore has not changed his life style. He still flits around in his private jet and lives in a house that leaves an excessively large foot print.
The problem with debating the issue with most of you global warming fanatics is that it is like a religion to you. Your belief in global warming is faith based.
And even if global warming were real why does it have to be all negative. Some claim the earth could warm to as high as it was 100 million years ago. Did you know the sahara desert which is one of the largest land masses on earth, was swampland? Also, Siberia which is the single largest land mass would hold far more people than would be displaced.
Europe is ahead of us. Eighty percent of the electricity generated in France is from nuclear power. It takes more than thirty years to get a nuclear power plan built here in the U.S.
I agree with you that it is unwise to be dependent on oil from such unstable or unfriendly areas of the world as the Middle East, Nigeria, Venezuela, etc. In fact I spent three years of my life working on USA Energy Independence (www.usaenergyindependence.com

The whole global warming/climate change issue is nothing more than 'redistributing the wealth'. If there was truly a cause to worry, real solutions would be found, not simply paying more for products. But - what seems to be the worst aspect, judging from the UN conference, is that third world countries will be kept from modernizing.
Great Hub. I agree with Sheila. Control the energy, control the means of production, control the wealth.
We certainly can do our part to help the situation. While it is not practical to ask everyone to stop driving their cars we can ask them instead to minimize carbon monoxide emission, buy cars with better fuel consumption as this helps produce lower possible emissions. Get more people to take public transport or walk more and use the car less when possible.Don't fly when you can take the train or reduce traveling if you can by using more video conferencing for business trips.
Hey... to promote my favorite cause and one that I think is worth while - how about getting involved with a grassroots environmental / green charity. I personally support (obviously) School Charging. Wrote a hub about them:

I just got your comment on my hub.
Just since you wrote this hub on global warming, thousands are being displaced by water. The Artic waterway is opening to shipping, and many villages have been covered with water, displacing whole villages. In the south Pacific rising water is already causing major problems for those living there. We are having natural disasters worldwide, in record numbers. (science can tell the weather from thousands of years ago). The record shows when the industrial revolution began, but it was a mere speck compared to the impact the huge population is having today.
We have to change the way we impact the earth. If for no other reason, we need to get away from Arab oil. In the old days we could have just gone and said this oil is ours. I suspect they will hold a grudge against the west for using up the oil they were happy to get paid for. I want nothing to do with radical regions and we need to get out from under their dominance. God help us if the Arab Kingdom is overthrown. The loss of oil to the U.S. will make the recession look like fun. Capitalism is already seeking answers and finding them too, in response to the world seeking change in the way we treat the environment. Europe already has electric cars on the road. Think of the fun riding your electric bicycle. It can't be all bad. You make some good points in your writing, I'll look forward to reading more of your blogs. Thanks.
